As soon as I got home I pulled out a couple of old lists from before Margot was born.
The red paper lists all the possible first names we were seriously considering giving her. These include:
- Eloïse
- Margot (of course)
- Sophie
- Chloé
- Beatrice
- Charlotte
- Élodie
- Lilou
- Solene
- Freya
- Maia
- Molly
- Mika
My thoughts exactly.
Anyways, moving on, the white paper indicates possible middle names. By this time we were also considering “Maëlle” as a first name as evidenced by the fact that we’ve circled “Maëlle Sofia Parham” on the page and seemed to have relegated “Margot Soleil Parham” off to the side.
Maëlle Sofia Parham…interesting. What do you think about that name? Has a nice ring to it huh? Yup, yup…WRONG!!!!! It sounds like a French nun crashed into a Bulgarian Studebaker on her way to buy English muffins. Oh little patate, you really dodged a bullet!

This post brought back so many memories! Zoe turned 3 in January, so the naming ritual sometimes seems like it was a long time ago. We had the added bonus of not knowing the gender of the baby, so had 2 lists on the go. Interestingly, we both agreed on a boy's name, but not a girl's, I thought that was a 'sign' that the baby was a boy. Ahh, my mother's intuition went awry even before I was a mother...

We also had two lists but Owen was top of the boy list both times. In fact second time, Owen was the list. I remember we also liked William and Dylan first time round. If Owen had been a girl he would have been Nell. But it's lucky he was a boy because Fanf and I never really found any girl's name we agreed on other than Matilda. I had a huge list of girl's names, none of which Fanf liked. My favourite was Astrid but it sounds rather harsh in French.

ReplyDeleteI see "Star" on the white paper...did you REALLY consider "Star??" My coworker's cat is named Star, hee hee!! I remember raising an eyebrow at a few of the choices on your list, but in the end the choice was yours, and chances are the little spark would have grown into whatever name you chose. Also...didn't know Charlotte was on your list! That was high on ours for years, but then Andrea named her daughter Charlotte so that ended that, heh.
