The Purpose of Baby Stuff

Margot is growing in fits and spurts. I was tasked with the critical job of going through all her shoes today to see which ones still fit.  I ended up finding few pairs that are already too small even though they have never been worn. I guess they will be going in a “give away” box.

Hmmm come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Margot wear any of her shoes!  Given that most babies don’t walk until they are older, what is their function? Why do they exist? However, Margot is crawling all over the place so why don’t shoes exist for baby knees and hands?

Baby stuff can be funny like that.  Lots of stuff seems to have no apparent purpose.  Take toys. They just blink. And beep. And flash. Over and over and over again!

Wait a minute...maybe baby shoes are like tasty wheat in the Matrix (minus the tasting like chicken – not that I’d know)…

Whoa.  These are deep questions.

  1. Blimey, not even I have that many shoes. O has one pair, Robeez 6-12 months. M has two pairs. But I expect most of Margot's shoes were presents, right? The purpose of all this baby stuff is to give pleasure to the person that buys it for the baby. I love buying baby stuff for other people's kids!

  2. hey, she wore the red shoes I bought her for her baptism, and if I remember correctly, everyone raved about them! They were miles too big for her at the time, so maybe they still fit?

Incidentally, don't you dare give away any of the few items I've bought her...just set them aside and give them back to me if you don't want them anymore :P

  3. Bex - LOL most of those shoes were gifts from our generous friends and family.

Nathalie - don't worry, we won't give away anything with meaning! What we do give away will go to friends and family for use with their lil ones.

I still think someone should invent shoes for knees. I'll even propose a name: "shnees".

  5. The 'give away" box? Will gladly take hand me down shoes or clothes for Shayla. I love hand-me downs and it's so much better to get more use out of these short lived baby things. If you have some things to give away - we will gladly take them off your hands ;)
